The Social Service Group (SSG) of the Indian Institute ofManagement Kozhikode organized Aarogya 09, a health camp on the 3rdof October 2009 for the benefit of the IIMK community. With its tagline of“Ever wondered how has your hectic life eaten you from inside”, the event wasaimed at providing the IIMK community an opportunity to gauge their medicalfitness. In addition to the students and the faculty, the camp also covered thesecurity personnel, housekeeping staff and the mess workers who also form anintegral part of the IIMK community.
It was organized in association with Vasan Eye Care, Calicutand D B Lulu’s laboratory, Calicut. The participants of the camp wereadministered the following tests at subsidized rates.
· Blood pressure
· Blood sugar
· Cholesterol Check up
· Eye sight check up
In addition to the above, discount coupons to the tune of30% that could be availed at the partner laboratory, in a window of one month,were issued to those interested for going in for other tests such as
· Thyroid
· Haemoglobin
· Bilurubin - Liver function test
· Lipid Profile – Cardio Vascular test
· Electrolytes – Acutely anaemic patients

The health camp was provided free of cost for the securitypersonnel, housekeeping staff and the mess workers and their expenses wereborne by the team SSG. The camp was a big hit and it saw more than 200participants make use of the opportunity at their doorsteps to test theirfitness levels. By sensitizing them to how they fared on the indicators oflifestyle disorders viz. Blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol level, it drovehome the importance of the adoption of a healthy lifestyle.
