The concept of palliative care is new to India and is gaining acceptance by the day. The Pain and Palliative Care Centre whose main office is in the Calicut Medical College has done pioneering work in this field. SSG has been providing support to ‘Ashrayam pain and palliative care centre’ located in Kunnamangalam.  Our association with the pain and palliative care centre is almost one year old and so far we have donated Rs 27000/- to the organization for the purchase of medicines for 36 chronically ill patients. The money provided by SSG is used for purchase of medicines such as Paracetamol, Metrandiozl and Asprin and things like urine bags. Apart from that,, our group members and volunteers have been visiting the patients as part of the weekly ''home visit'' to these patient’s houses. Though we have started supporting the organization through monetary donations, the greater aim would be to generate awareness about the issue in the society and help people adopt this relatively new concept so that the local chapters of this organization can find support from the community
